Mirka Rivas, Associate Director of Tennis

Mirka Rivas is a USTA-certified tennis professional with extensive experience coaching players of all ages and levels. Before joining WRC, she worked at our sister club, Grand Slam Tennis Club, in Banksville, NY. She currently serves as the Associate Director of Tennis at WRC, where she has successfully expanded the IGNiTE/FiRE junior programs. Mirka brings a philosophy that emphasizes enhancing the joy of learning tennis, focusing on the process rather than just the outcomes.

Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Mirka had a distinguished junior tennis career, leading her to play at Northwest Missouri State University, where she held the #1 singles and doubles positions and served as captain of the women’s team. After her playing years, she became an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams, earning recognition as ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year and helping guide the women’s team to the NCAA national tournament quarterfinals.

Mirka holds a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition with a concentration in Dietetics and a Master’s degree in Applied Health and Sports Science.

Adolfo Nunez, Senior Tennis Professional

Adolfo has been working at Weston Racquet Club since 2002, and has over 15 years of teaching experience in Fairfield County. He is certified by the ITF, USPTA and USPTR as well as being QuickStart certified. Adolfo's dedication and determination to better the game within each player has earned him a favorite with WRC members. He has been an active coach in our USTA programs along with serving the needs of juniors, ladies and men's private lessons and clinics.

Adolfo truly cares about everyone he works with, on and off the court, as do all of our WRC pros.

Mathias Degardin, Director of Fire & Excel Program

Mathias was born and raised in Lyon, France. After playing tennis at a national level and finishing high school in France, he decided to pursue his tennis journey in the United States by joining the tennis team at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA), #8 in the nation in NCAA Division II. Mathias was named Freshman of the Year in his conference and finished his last two years as team captain playing #1 in singles and #1 in doubles. Mathias achieved a career-high of #40 in the nation in singles and #30 in the nation in doubles. In 2020, Mathias obtained his Master of Business Administration from Queens University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Sports and Entertainment Management at Manhattanville College.

Working in many different tennis academies and tennis clubs he recognizes the importance of being a good role model; working with and witnessing his students develop into tennis athletes is the process he finds most fulfilling and satisfying. His teaching philosophy is that a tennis player with a strong core, slow and steady breathing, a calm mind, and effortless power is best suited to become a better tennis player.

Julie Humby, Tennis Professional

Julie has certification for PTR age 11-17, PTR Ten and Under and is a USPTA Professional level accredited professional coach. She was ranked 150 in the International Tennis Federation.

Julie has over six years of teaching experience. She often says "I am passionate about making my students learn faster in a very enjoyable way." Her philosophy is that fundamentals are the key to a success. The proper technique will allow the player to have more control and accuracy, with more fluent strokes and less effort. On the court she focuses on agility, coordination and balance.

As a Junior, his best ranking was #14 in the under-16 year group in South America. He also played professionally  and competed in both singles and doubles.

Nicolas strives to teach players skills that they will use on the court as well as in their daily lives. He is mindful of the diverse talents that players bring to the court as well as different learning styles.

Andi Pascual Larrinaga, Tennis Professional

Andrea, known as Andi to friends and family, was born and raised in Bilbao, Spain. After participating in several tournaments at the regional and national level as a junior, she was recruited to play for East Tennessee State University (ETSU). At ETSU, an NCAA Division I school, she achieved the ranking of #124 in the nation in singles.

Andi graduated with a major in Kinesiology and a minor in Sport Management and spent an additional two years at ETSU as the assistant coach of the women’s tennis team.
